Rick Mide, President of Mide Consulting, Inc. and RadioInfomercials.com, got his first taste of radio as a teenager when he wrote and produced an in-house version of 'The Local News' for his job at the YM/YWHA. At age 30, he got his first professional opportunity, when he created his own radio infomercial program, a three minute vignette that aired five times each weekday called "The Rick Mide Sports Cap". A marketing plan was devised to secure spot commercial advertisers (:30/:60sec.) for each vignette attached to a 'sports news report of the hour'. It wasn't long before Rick Mide realized that the real money in radio was in sales and that long-form advertising or infomercials worked extremely well for direct response advertisers and those that never did well with :30's or :60's before (that's seconds, of course). The radio station saw the potential as well and secured Rick Mide to a permanent position selling radio infomercial airtime in the New York market. By 1997, Rick Mide was producing well over 1.25 million dollars in radio infomercial sales per year, far surpassing the sales revenue generated for the station in the past.
In fact, by nearly selling all of the available airtime, Rick Mide needed to seek out other opportunities and saw the potential to expand nationwide. First, he left his job to start Mide Consulting, Inc. and RadioInfomercials.com. Then he sought out another, more lucrative radio station in the New York market, one that had all the potential and prime day spots available at a fair cost for radio infomercial programmers. We are proud to tell you that in the first week of operations, Mide Consulting, Inc. generated over ten hours of infomercial programming sales in New York City alone! Now, over ten years later, we have placed tens of thousands of hours nationwide. To say that this was a success would have to be left to our radio station affiliates, infomercial programmers and, of course, the listening audience.
